Commissions

Commissioning a portrait is a wonderful way to capture the essence of a person and create a memory. Whether it's a friend, family member or even yourself, a portrait can be a beautiful and meaningful addition to your home or as a gift.

Portrait commissions typically range from head and shoulders to half-length portraits, using both formal and informal poses. This will depend on the occasion, size and your personal preference.

Stage One

This will include getting together either in person or over email to discuss your thoughts and ideas. Things to think of ahead of time are the type and size of the painting you would like, the subject matter, delivery of the painting and framing if necessary.

At this stage, I will be able to inform you of the price, which will vary based on the size, style, number of people and the background.

Oil paintings require a longer drying period and can take anything from weeks to months to complete depending on its complexity, so planning ahead is important.

Stage Two

Good reference photos for portraits are crucial when it comes to painting.

The face needs to be properly lit, with enough light to see the features and their details. Direct or harsh light should be avoided.

I will then take the reference images and create preliminary sketches or begin the painting.

At this point a deposit of minimum 33% will be required, this secures your commission slot and allows for the work to proceed forward.

Stage Three

It's important to keep everyone informed about the progress of the painting. I am happy to accommodate with photographs of the painting at various stages to be emailed to keep everyone up to date.

Delivery of the painting will be made once remaining payment has been received and the painting has sufficiently dried and been varnished.
